Energy Stocks FAQ
Which energy stocks moved the most today?
At the Oct 19 close, Marathon Petroleum (MPC) was the best performer of the 35 stocks tracked here at +0.27%, and Halliburton (HAL) the weakest at −2.07%. This table refreshes in your browser every five minutes during market hours, so the live ranking can differ.
Do energy stocks move with the oil price?
Directionally, but not one for one. Producers earn more when crude or gas rises, so exploration and production stocks track the commodity most closely. Refiners respond to the crack spread rather than crude itself, pipeline companies mostly earn fees on volumes, and the integrated majors are cushioned by their refining and chemicals businesses. Equity markets also price expectations, so shares often move before the commodity does.
How current are these quotes?
Prices come from Yahoo Finance and are delayed. The page is built with the latest hourly snapshot and then refreshes live in your browser every five minutes while the tab is open and markets are trading. Outside trading hours the figures show the last close. They are for information only and should not be used for trading.
Which companies are included?
About forty widely followed US-listed energy names: the five integrated majors, shale and independent producers, gas and LNG companies, oilfield services, pipelines, refiners, mineral and royalty companies, and four sector ETFs. State-owned companies such as Saudi Aramco are not listed on US exchanges and are covered on the oil company pages instead.
