Oil Price Charts FAQ

What is the 52-week range for WTI crude?

WTI settled at $97.70 on Oct 19, 2026. Over the past 52 weeks of daily closes it has ranged from $55.27 (Dec 16, 2025) to $112.95 (Apr 7, 2026), so the latest close sits 74% of the way up that range.

Why is Brent higher than WTI?

Brent was $108.19 against WTI at $97.70 on Oct 19, a gap of $10.49 a barrel. Brent prices seaborne crude from the North Sea and is the global reference; WTI is landlocked Cushing, Oklahoma crude, so it carries inland transport costs and US export-capacity limits. The gap widens when US inventories are heavy or export capacity is tight.

Where do these prices come from?

The stats table uses the daily settlement closes of the front-month NYMEX and ICE futures contracts, refreshed hourly. The chart pulls two years of daily closes from the same file for the 1-week, 1-month and 1-year views, and Yahoo Finance weekly and monthly futures history for the 5-year and max views. A front-month series stitches successive contracts together, so a long chart shows continuous front-month prices, not one contract.

Are these live prices?

The chart shows closing prices, so the latest point is the most recent settlement rather than a tick-by-tick quote. For intraday quotes see the live price cards on the dashboard and the ticker at the top of every page.
