US Fuel Exports by Country FAQ
Which country buys the most US gasoline?
Mexico, by a wide margin: about 417 thousand barrels a day in July 2026, or 48.5% of US gasoline exports. Total US gasoline exports were 859 thousand barrels a day.
Which country buys the most US diesel?
Netherlands, at about 255 thousand barrels a day in July 2026 (14.6% of US distillate exports).
Which country buys the most US jet fuel?
Netherlands, at about 93 thousand barrels a day in July 2026 (25.3% of US jet fuel exports).
Why does the US export so much refined fuel?
US Gulf Coast refineries are large, sophisticated and built for export, and domestic demand growth has been flat to declining for gasoline in particular — so refiners sell the surplus abroad, mostly to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, regions with less refining capacity of their own. The oil refineries page covers the refining side of this.
How current are these figures?
They are the EIA's monthly exports-by-destination estimates, published with about a two-month lag. For US crude imports, the other side of the trade, see the US crude oil imports by country page.
