Oman Oil: Production, Reserves & Role in the Market

Oman Oman has never been an OPEC member, but it is one of the non-OPEC "OPEC+" partners that coordinates output alongside the cartel — named constantly in OPEC+ communiqués as one of the seven countries making the group's voluntary production adjustments.

A Non-OPEC Voice in OPEC+

Why the quota looks lower than total output

  • Oman's OPEC+ crude oil quota (around 831,000 b/d as of July 2026) is not the same figure as its total oil production — the quota covers crude specifically under the voluntary-adjustment scheme, while total output (roughly 1.05 million b/d) includes condensate and other liquids not bound by the same ceiling.
  • This is the same crude-versus-total-liquids distinction that makes OPEC and OPEC+ production figures easy to misread across the group generally — see OPEC vs. non-OPEC for the wider picture.

Why Oman coordinates without joining

  • Staying outside OPEC lets Oman avoid the formal governance and quota-setting apparatus of the cartel while still aligning its output policy with it — a middle position several Gulf and Caspian producers occupy within OPEC+.
  • Its regular presence in OPEC+ voluntary-adjustment communiqués, alongside Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan and Algeria, means its production moves are announced and tracked on the same schedule as the OPEC members' — see the OPEC+ meeting schedule.

Oman Oil FAQ

How much oil does Oman produce?

About 1.05 million barrels a day as of March 2026. Its OPEC+ crude quota is lower, around 831,000 barrels a day as of July 2026, because the quota covers crude oil specifically and not the condensate and other liquids included in total production.
