Republic of Congo Oil: Production, OPEC Role & Key Fields
Congo produces about 0.24 million barrels of crude per day (2025). The Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville, not to be confused with its larger neighbor the Democratic Republic of Congo) is a small OPEC member whose output is dominated by a single deepwater offshore project, Moho Nord, run by international majors rather than the small state oil company.

A Deepwater, Major-Operated Producer
Why one field dominates
- Moho Nord and its earlier phase, Moho-Bilondo, together account for the large majority of Congolese crude output — a concentration risk shared by several small OPEC members.
- Because the field is ultra-deepwater, it needs the capital and technical capacity of an international major; Congo's state oil company, SNPC, holds a minority stake rather than operating it.
In OPEC
- Congo is one of OPEC's smaller members by output, alongside Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, and its production quota reflects that scale.
- Its OPEC membership since 2018 gives it a seat in production-policy discussions that its output alone would not otherwise command.
